The Mewar festival is an annual event of Udaipur. It is celebrated in the month of March or April. It is celebrated in order to welcome the spring (King of Seasons). The festival exhibits the royal grandeur of Rajasthan at its best. This festival coincides with famous Gangaur festival of Udaipur and holds great significance for ladies. The main attraction of this festival is colourfully attired women, the main participants of this festival.

How It Is Celebrated?

Mewar festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion by womenfolk. Young girls and women beautifully dress and decorate the images of Isar and Gangaur. Then they take them to the Pichola Lake in a traditional parade. This huge procession seems really amazing and colourful. Finally women reach Gangaur ghat and offer the images to the lake with the religious singing and festivity. During this festival women enjoy and make the most of the rejoicing moments. Rajasthani women also apply Mehandi (Heena) on their hands and feet.

A unique aspect of this festival is an unusual procession of boats. This procession takes place at Pichola Lake. The celebration ends with a befitting finale.

Attractions of Mewar Festival

This festival has unending attractions even when the religious part is over. You can see folk dancers, folk singers and traditional musicians who perform in this festival. Their performance can be enjoyed in the form of cultural shows and programmes.

In most of cultural events, Rajasthani culture is portrayed through dances, songs and puppet shows. This three-day festival wins the heart of the people and allows them to enjoy the festivity.
